I am just reading about the loss of the plant in Bay de Verde.May it be recovered quickly.. My grandfather was born there and his father was Thomas Riggs. I am honored that my descendants come from such a beautiful place. I hope to visit soon.

To the residents of Bay de Verde, I was so sorry last week to hear of the devastating fire of the fish plant. Hopefully some of you will find work in other fish plants and the rebuild will happen quickly. I feel a connection as my bff lives in Coley's Point i.e. fire trucks came from as far away as Bay Roberts, plus as I lost everything in an apartment fire many years ago. God speed.

So very sorry to see your processing plant lost, however kudos to the Quinlan family for their rapid decision to rebuild an even better plant. I have fond memories of Bay de Verde, my mother was born in Old Perlican and I fished off your community on a long liner my uncle owned from Old Perlican in the mid 1960's

Great site. I can't get enough history of my father's birth place (BDV). My father James Andrew Woodrow B. Sep 1926. He passed away Mar 2000 in Sydney Cape Breton. His father was Andrew Woodrow B1878, D 1929 (wife-Mary McCarthy) I believe. My father's 1st cousins, were Dan (Mary), Jack (Molly)and Jim who lived up on the hill ..... I sure wish I could get more info on my father's side. I think he had a sister Mary who died at an early age (1929). jbwoodrow@yahoo.ca

I will be bringing my daughter home his summer and our first stop will be the Blundon House seeing as that is were our family started. The house looks beautiful and I am glad that it has been preserved to show others how life back home was when it first became our home. I am curious why Norman J. Blundon is not in the war vets section ?

On behalf of the Bay de Verde Heritage Committee, I would like to thank all those people who in any way helped the Heritage Committee over the past year. We had a very successful year all around mainly because of our volunteers. I also thank the Town Council for their constant support. Again Thank You and Happy 2015.

My 4xGreat Grandparents were John & Dorothy Sutton who came from Staffordshire England to Bay de Verde in 1798. My late Father was Ralph Sutton, born in Burgoynes Cove 1918. He joined the NOFU and came to the Highlands of Scotland where he settled. This is a great site, through it, and Mr B Doyle's wonderful book, Our Ancestors. I have been able to trace my Sutton family tree back to my 5x Great Grandparents, John Sutton & Elizabeth Bestwick.

My grandfather, John Walsh, son of Patrick Walsh and Martha Howell [both buried in Western Bay], was born in Bay de Verde in the 1870s. He and his wife, Bridget Tobin, from Western Bay, moved from there to Glace Bay in the early 1920s. I did visit B de V in 2002. I would be interested in any genealogical resources about the Walshes in B de V. Thanks.
